BAVARO PUNTA CANA

Bavaro Beach is the most visited vacation destination in the Dominican Republic and it is world famous for its white sand beaches protected by coral reef. To the North of the Island is the Atlantic Ocean, and Caribbean Sea to the South. Map to the right marks "La Altagracia" province and "Cabeza de Torro" the most Easterly tip of the Island.

La Altagracia (aka Higüey) is the easternmost province of the Dominican Republic. It includes the offshore island of Isla Saona. Until 1968 it included what is now La Romana province.

The name commemorates a painting, Our Lady of La Altagracia, which was brought here from Spain in the early 16th century. Miracles are attributed to it.
